Turmeric (Curcuma Longa) is a plant from the ginger family, the rhizomes (underground stem) of which are commonly used as a spice in cooking. Turmeric has also been used for thousands of years as an Ayurvedic medicine. The turmeric root contains compounds called curcuminoids, the most common being curcumin. Curcumin is the main active compound which has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Curcumin C3 complex® is obtained from the dried rhizomes of the turmeric plant and is standardized to contain a minimum of 95% curcuminoids. It contains curcumin and two other curcuminoids, desmethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin. All three compounds have antioxidant properties and have more health benefits when taken together than using curcumin on its own.
Curcumin C3 Complex® has many scientifically proven potential health benefits, including:
A fact you may not be aware of is that turmeric is not absorbed very well in our bodies, meaning that only a small amount of curcumin actually gets into our bloodstream. Black pepper can increase absorption by up to 2000%. Research has shown that a combination of Curcumin Supplements and BioPerine® can improve the biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress.
Curcumin has the ability to interact and regulate multiple targets in the body resulting in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and many other benefits. The initial inflammatory response in the body is to protect and heal the body. However if the inflammatory response continues and becomes chronic, it can result in many diseases. Nuclear Factor-k-B (NF-kB) is the ‘master switch’ in our body which triggers inflammation. By inhibiting the release of this switch, many diseases can be prevented or delayed. Curcumin stops the NF-kB from being released.
Aging and many diseases are caused by free radicals. These unstable molecules cause our cells to break down over time, which can lead to aging of the skin and organs, but more seriously, can also lead to cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s disease and many others. Curcumin supplements neutralize the free radical and also boost the body’s own antioxidants. So much more than a simple spice!
