What is Black Aged Garlic?

Garlic (allium sativum) is part of the allium family, closely related to the onion, shallot, leek and chive. It has been used for thousands of years as both a food flavouring and a medicine by many ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, and Chinese. The ancient Greek physician, Hippocrates, used garlic as a medicine to treat a variety of health conditions, many of which are now backed by clinical research.

Black aged garlic is white garlic that has been fermented for around a month under controlled heat and humidity. Unlike white garlic, black aged garlic does not have a strong odour. This is because the allicin content, the component that gives white garlic its pungent odour, is reduced and converted into various other compounds. Black aged garlic also has nearly double the amount of antioxidants compared to white garlic. Our Heart Support Formula contains a highly concentrated 100:1 extract of aged black garlic which is equivalent to 25g of regular garlic. That’s almost 12 cloves of garlic!
